The Fuerteventura Film Commission, led by Nereida Calero, together with local and regional audiovisual production companies, has called for the simplification of procedures required to obtain permits from the Coastal Authority, making it easier to carry out filming activities on the island. During a meeting with Antonio Acosta, Director General for Coastal Management and Maritime Spatial Planning, representatives from the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster and several production companies raised this issue in the presence of Carlos Rodríguez, Councillor for the Environment.
Calero emphasised the importance of streamlining the authorisation process and proposed the introduction of an annual permit for audiovisual productions in Fuerteventura, following the model already implemented on other Canary Islands. Such a permit would simplify administrative procedures for the sector and help foster the continued growth of the audiovisual industry on the island.
The councillor expressed her appreciation for Acosta’s willingness to address the issue, noting that he had committed to exploring solutions aimed at accelerating administrative procedures. Both parties agreed to establish working groups to clarify processes and avoid duplication in permit applications, thereby facilitating a more efficient approval system.
Calero reiterated the goal of strengthening the film industry in Fuerteventura and recognised the efforts made by production companies to position the island as an attractive and highly sought-after filming destination.
