Cinedfest is an educational and cultural initiative created in the Canary Islands under the direction of filmmaker David Cánovas and composer Antonio Hernández. Over the years, the festival has evolved into a national event that now attracts short films from countries such as Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador.
The festival is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura through the Fuerteventura Film Commission, the Cabildo of La Palma, the Canary Islands Institute for Equality, San Cristóbal de La Laguna City Council, the DISA Foundation, and the SGAE Foundation.
Since the beginning of the year, the programme has provided students with fundamental audiovisual storytelling skills and the tools needed to create their own fiction and documentary short films, covering every stage of production from the initial idea through scriptwriting, pre-production, filming and editing. In Fuerteventura, students were able to develop their projects using equipment and resources provided by the Fuerteventura Film Commission.
A total of 528 short films were submitted to the competition nationwide.
The educational centres from Fuerteventura participating in the 11th edition of Cinedfest were CEIP Valles de Ortega, Lajares, Puerto del Rosario, Pablo Neruda, Gran Tarajal and Tuineje; IES San Diego de Alcalá, Puerto del Rosario, Santo Tomás de Aquino, Jandía, La Oliva, Corralejo and Puerto Cabras–Rafael Báez; as well as CEPA Fuerteventura and EA Puerto del Rosario.
