‘Contigo’ by Roberto Canedo Wins the Fuerteventura Film Commission Short Film Festival
The Fuerteventura Island Auditorium hosted the closing gala of the Fuerteventura Film Commission Short Film Festival, where all the short films submitted to the competition were screened before the final award ceremony.
The President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, and the Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, Nereida Calero, presented the Best Short Film Award, worth €700, to Roberto Canedo Balboa for his short film Contigo (With You).
The winning piece tells the story of a grandmother and granddaughter who relive memories and shared experiences through their recollections, creating a touching reflection on family bonds, memory and affection.
The jury, composed of audiovisual professionals Miguel Letang, Pedro Estoico and Adrián Tejero, was responsible for evaluating the films submitted to the competition.
In addition to Contigo, the audience enjoyed screenings of the following short films:
- El Viaje (The Journey) by Tatiana Falcón
- Desanda by Luis Felipe Marques
- El Deseo de Federico (Federico’s Wish) by Javier Tendero
- ¿Qué gigantes? (What Giants?) by Juan Lorenzo Domínguez
- Fuerteventura Te Cambia (Fuerteventura Changes You) by Esteban Esquivel
- Unamuno Enclave de Cine by the Special Education Unit of IES San Diego de Alcalá
The Fuerteventura Film Commission launched the festival in collaboration with Fuerteventura filmmaker Adrián Tejero and his production company Árida Films.
Lola García described the festival as “a space created to give a voice to the audiovisual talent of our island. It is inspiring to see so many creative perspectives come together to share their vision of Fuerteventura and demonstrate that stories with soul and quality are also created here.”
For her part, Nereida Calero thanked all participants for taking part in “a festival that has been created to promote local talent and highlight our territory and identity through audiovisual storytelling, with the hope of continuing the initiative through future editions.”
Filmmaker Adrián Tejero praised the quality of the entries submitted to the competition, noting that “the festival received a number of highly interesting and inspiring proposals centred around this year’s theme, which focused on Nuestra Señora de La Peña.”
“The people of Fuerteventura have truly embraced this festival. It is a wonderful opportunity offered by the Fuerteventura Film Commission to demonstrate the quality and creativity of the audiovisual work being produced on the island,” he added.
