Fuerteventura Hosts the Filming of Mi Zona, the Feature Film Debut of Goya Award Winner Cristian Beteta

Fuerteventura is hosting the filming of Mi Zona, the feature film debut of Cristian Beteta, winner of a Goya Award. Following three weeks of filming in Gran Canaria, production has now moved to Fuerteventura, where shooting will continue for a further two weeks.

The island’s deserted roads will serve as the film’s principal setting, with its striking landscapes and unique geography providing the backdrop for an arid, isolated and hostile environment that becomes an active element of the story itself.

According to Nereida Calero, Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, attracting productions of this scale is highly significant for the island.

“Film productions represent a major opportunity for the diversification of the local economy, generating both investment and employment in Fuerteventura,” she explained. “For this reason, it is important to continue supporting the growth of the audiovisual industry while ensuring that development remains fully compatible with the protection of our territory and landscapes.”

Mi Zona, the latest production from Inefable Productions (ISII Group), is a survival thriller set in the 1980s that combines a western atmosphere with elements of horror, in which the landscape plays a fundamental role in shaping the narrative.

The film stars Milena Smit, Roberto Álamo and Irene Escolar, who attended an exclusive media visit to the set alongside director Cristian Beteta, executive producer Lydia Palencia, and Adargoma Hernández, Councillor of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura.

For Cristian Beteta, Mi Zona marks his transition from short films to feature filmmaking and represents the consolidation of his distinctive voice within Spanish genre cinema.

A director and screenwriter specialising in horror and suspense, Beteta gained widespread recognition with his short film Blind Spot (Ángulo Muerto), starring Goya Award winners Carlos Santos and Eva Llorach. The short received the Best Short Film Award at the 2025 Forqué Awards, as well as Best Director and Best Actress at the Fugaz Awards, Spain’s leading honours dedicated to short filmmaking.
