Fuerteventura’s audiovisual talent shone once again on Friday at the Cinedfest 2026 Island Gala, held at the Island Auditorium, where the short film The Mark, produced by the Fuerteventura School of Art, won the festival’s top award.

The production was the standout success of the evening, also taking home the awards for Best Cinematography, Best Director and Best Sound, establishing itself as the most acclaimed work of this year’s educational film festival.

Second place went to Lighthouse, produced by CEIP Morro Jable, while Perfectly Masculine, by IES La Oliva, received third prize. In addition, the documentary Oceanauts of the Blue Planet, created by CEIP Casillas del Ángel, was awarded Best Primary School Documentary in the Canary Islands, a regional distinction.

The gala brought together students and teachers from thirteen schools across Fuerteventura, all of whom spent the academic year producing short films and documentaries, using audiovisual storytelling as a powerful educational and creative tool.

Among the individual awards, Rayco Báez received Best Director for Take the Money and Leave; Best Screenplay went to Can I Get You Out of Your House?, produced by CEIP Lajares; Juan Pablo Hernández won Best Actor for his performance in The Attack, by IES Puerto Cabras Rafael Báez; and Irene was named Best Actress for her role in No Filter, produced by CEIP María Castrillo García.

CEIP Gran Tarajal also received a Special Mention for the overall quality of the four short films submitted to the competition.

This year’s edition featured schools from several municipalities across Fuerteventura, further establishing Cinedfest as one of the leading initiatives promoting creativity, teamwork and interest in the audiovisual industry among young people.

Supported on the island by Fuerteventura Film Commission, the festival celebrates its fifth consecutive edition in Fuerteventura this year, reinforcing its commitment to bringing cinema and audiovisual production into classrooms while inspiring new generations to pursue careers in one of the Canary Islands’ fastest-growing creative industries.
