Protected Natural Area

Filming in Protected Natural Areas

Fuerteventura is home to numerous protected natural areas. Due to their environmental, cultural and ecological importance, access to and use of these areas requires prior authorisation from the Department of Environment of the Island Council of Fuerteventura.

Applications for filming permits in locations located within Protected Natural Areas must include full details of the production, including the filming dates, duration, technical equipment, exact location with GPS coordinates, number of people involved, crew and technical staff, public liability insurance, drone operation authorisation, as well as any other relevant information concerning the location for which the permit is being requested.

Where the requested location falls within a Protected Natural Area, a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and/or the Natura 2000 Network, the application must be submitted between 1 and 4 months in advance, depending on the scale of the project. Larger productions will require a longer processing period.

To obtain authorisation, a general application must be submitted to the Department of Environment of the Island Council of Fuerteventura, together with a detailed project report.

*** The use of drones within Protected Natural Areas and the Natura 2000 Network is prohibited during the bird nesting season, which generally runs from January to July, although dates may vary.
