
Fuerteventura Film Commission presents a new Advanced Animation Course organised by the Omotenashi Sociocultural Association, taking place from 10 July to 20 December 2025. This six-month programme is aimed at students with previous experience in animation, offering participants the opportunity to further develop and refine their skills. The course will be taught by renowned animator and illustrator Tenesor Cruz at Maxocrearte School and is structured around five modules covering advanced 2D and 3D animation techniques applied to the audiovisual industry. The programme will also feature contributions from leading professionals working within the animation sector.
Duration: 6 months
Target Audience: Students with previous experience in animation who wish to further develop their skills in this field. Participants will be admitted strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, provided they can demonstrate previous experience. Priority will be given to residents of Fuerteventura.

The programme is divided into 5 modules:
Module One:
* Basic drawing and understanding of simple shapes.
* Animation theory.
* Introduction to Grease Pencil, Blender’s 2D drawing and animation tool.
* Fundamentals of traditional animation.
* Practical application of acquired knowledge through exercises.
* Practical exercise: bouncing ball animation.
* Practical exercise: bowling pin animation.
* Practical exercise: in-betweening water and fire drawings.
* Animation exercise: hair movement and in-betweening.
* Practical exercise: bouncing sack animation.
Module Two:
* Animation Theory II.
* Drawing, understanding complex forms and character creation.
* Visual memory and anatomical understanding in drawing.
* Practical exercise: animated take.
* Animation theory / Acting.
* Analysis of animated films to develop an animator’s critical eye.
* Practical exercise: animating a single scene.
* Practical exercise: animating two scenes with a shot change.
* Online masterclass with a guest concept artist.
* Submission of the concept art assignment.
* Screenwriting theory, the Hero’s Journey and story development.
* Drawing and background creation for animation.
Module Three:
* Animation Theory III.
* Animal anatomy drawing and understanding forms in motion.
* Animation exercise: creating a character walk cycle.
* Animation exercise: creating a character walk with forward movement.
* Animation Theory IV.
* Lip-sync exercises: synchronising characters with spoken dialogue.
* Animation exercise: character lifting heavy objects.
* Creation of original characters for animation.
* Animation theory: different 2D and 3D animation styles.
* Practical exercises exploring each animation style.
* Introduction to 3D animation theory.
* Online masterclass with a guest animation professional.
* Submission of the assignment proposed by the guest instructor.
Module Four:
* 3D Animation: Introduction to Blender 3D.
* Basic character modelling.
* Camera setup and placement in Blender.
* Combining 2D and 3D elements in Blender.
* Creating backgrounds in Blender for both 2D and 3D animation.
* Animating 3D characters in Blender.
* Creating and lighting a scene in Blender.
* Animating a scene created from scratch in Blender and exporting the final project.
Module Five:
* Final project reviews with industry professionals.
* Video editing using Blender.
* Preparation of each student’s Demo Reel.
