Fuerteventura Film Commission has officially announced the second edition of its Short Film Festival, an initiative aimed at further strengthening the audiovisual sector while showcasing the creativity and talent connected to Fuerteventura. The call for entries opens on 15 September and will remain open until 13 November.
The festival was presented on Monday at the Assembly Hall of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, with the participation of the President of the Cabildo, Lola García; the Councillor responsible for Fuerteventura Film Commission, Nereida Calero; and the festival organisers, Adrián Tejero and Miquel Jaume, whose production company collaborates with Fuerteventura Film Commission in developing this initiative.
Cabildo President Lola García highlighted that “this festival allows us to continue showcasing Fuerteventura’s audiovisual potential. From the Cabildo, we remain committed to supporting and creating opportunities for creativity and talent to flourish, while also promoting the culture and identity of our island.”
Councillor Nereida Calero explained that “we approach this second edition with the aim of further consolidating a festival that focuses on promoting local talent within Fuerteventura’s audiovisual sector.” She also encouraged everyone to participate, stressing that “you don’t need to be a professional—you just need an idea and the desire to tell a story.”
Festival organiser Adrián Tejero praised Fuerteventura Film Commission’s commitment to continuing the project, noting that “this second edition represents another step towards establishing a festival that truly belongs to Fuerteventura and helping it continue to grow.” He also announced that this year’s edition will place greater emphasis on outreach and collaboration with members of the island’s cultural community.
Fellow organiser Miquel Jaume underlined the importance of festivals in supporting the audiovisual industry, stating that “we all started at film festivals. They are a fundamental opportunity for emerging filmmakers and help build a strong audiovisual industry on the island.”
The theme chosen for this year’s edition is “Myths and Legends of Fuerteventura”, inviting participants to portray, reinterpret or create stories inspired by the island’s culture and identity. The festival welcomes productions in any genre or style, including fiction, documentary, experimental cinema, comedy, horror, animation and video art.
Submitted films must have a maximum running time of 15 minutes, including credits.
Open and Free Participation
The festival is open to participants of all ages and nationalities, with no limit on the number of works each filmmaker may submit. Participants under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a parent or legal guardian.

The submission period closes at 11:59 p.m. (Canary Islands time) on 13 November.
The jury will consist of three professionals from the audiovisual and cultural sectors, whose names will be announced soon through the festival’s official communication channels.
This second edition also features an increase in prize money. The Best Short Film Award carries a prize of €1,000, while the Second Prize is worth €300 and the Third Prize €200.
The awards ceremony and the announcement of the winners are scheduled for 27 November. The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the timetable if necessary, with any updates to be communicated through the festival’s official website.
