The exhibition showcases the lesser-known side of filmmaking through photographs taken during productions filmed in Fuerteventura.
The Fuerteventura Film Commission officially opened its travelling exhibition “Fuerteventura, A Natural Film Set” today as part of the special programme commemorating its 10th anniversary. The exhibition will tour all six municipalities of the island, beginning at the Chillida Hall of the Palace of Training and Conferences, where it can be visited daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The opening ceremony was attended by Nereida Calero, Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, who congratulated “all those people who continue to drive this industry forward with enthusiasm and dedication. We are proud of everything that has been achieved in Fuerteventura over the last ten years, and our commitment is to continue supporting a sector that is fully compatible with the island and its natural environment.”
The Deputy Minister of Culture of the Canary Islands, Horacio Umpiérrez, also thanked the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Fuerteventura Film Commission for the initiative. “Over these ten years, we have witnessed remarkable progress in a professional sector that has firmly established itself as an essential industry within the Canary Islands. Today, we can confidently say that cinema in Fuerteventura is a real opportunity.”
The exhibition “Fuerteventura, A Natural Film Set” offers visitors a journey through some of the most important productions filmed on the island. Through a collection of previously unseen behind-the-scenes still photographs, known in the industry as set photography, visitors can discover a side of filmmaking that is rarely seen by the public. These images were captured during filming by professionals responsible for documenting the production process throughout the shoot.
The exhibition also serves as a tribute to the audiovisual industry and to the dedication and hard work of the professionals who have helped establish Fuerteventura as one of the world’s leading natural film locations.
Following its stay in Puerto del Rosario, the exhibition will travel to the Corralejo Auditorium from 2 to 16 October, the Antigua Auditorium from 18 October to 1 November, the Casa del Zapatero in Betancuria from 7 to 21 November, the Morro Jable Bus Station from 26 November to 10 December, and finally the Gran Tarajal Municipal Library from 16 to 30 December.
With an average annual temperature of 22°C and exceptional natural light conditions, Fuerteventura offers unique advantages for film, television and advertising productions. In recent years, the island has hosted major international productions including Wonder Woman 1984, Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Allied and Marvel’s Eternals, among many others.
National productions filmed on the island include titles such as 30 Coins, The Lighthouse of the Orcas, 4L, Solo, Milk Men, The Beasts of No Nation, Rendir los Machos and The Traveller.
