Filmed entirely in Fuerteventura during 2024, the feature will arrive in cinemas across Spain on 5 December, bringing a piece of the island’s landscapes, culture and spirit to audiences nationwide.

Playa de Lobos is a comedy directed by Javier Veiga and stars Dani Rovira, Marta Hazas, Antonio San Juan and Javier Veiga himself.

The production was filmed across the municipalities of Antigua, Pájara, Puerto del Rosario, La Oliva and Betancuria. The five-week shoot involved 280 local extras, selected through a casting process held on the island, and generated an estimated €1 million in economic impact for Fuerteventura.

The film’s main location is Playa de la Guirra in Caleta de Fuste (Antigua). Additional scenes were filmed in locations including the Corralejo Dunes Road and Corralejo Harbour (La Oliva), the historic village of Betancuria, and private locations in Tefía and Costa Calma.

The production received support and location services from the Fuerteventura Film Commission.

According to Nereida Calero, Councillor responsible for the Film Commission, “film productions represent an important opportunity to diversify the local economy, generating both investment and employment in Fuerteventura.”

She added that “it is essential to continue supporting the development of the audiovisual industry on the island while ensuring that growth remains fully compatible with the protection and preservation of our territory and landscapes.”

Playa de Lobos is produced by Mediolimón, Zebra Producciones (Grupo IZEN) and Epos Cine, with the support of RTVE and the collaboration of Pampa Films. The film will be distributed in Spain by Tripictures. Marta Hazas and Sara Fernández-Velasco serve as executive producers.

The story follows two completely different men who meet at sunset in a beach bar overlooking Lobos Islet.

Manuel, an Andalusian who works at the beach bar, and Klaus, an Argentine tourist who refuses to leave his sun lounger, have little in common. One wants to finish his shift and go home to sleep, while the other insists on ordering one last beer and spending the evening gazing at the moon.

From this seemingly trivial disagreement emerges an absurd and entertaining conflict that drives the comedy, bringing together two contrasting personalities against the spectacular backdrop of Fuerteventura.
