Twenty Participants Complete Sustainable Production Assistant Training with Fuerteventura Film Commission

Students gained first-hand knowledge of the sustainability measures implemented in audiovisual productions across Fuerteventura.

Twenty participants completed training as Sustainable Production Assistants in a course held from 27 to 30 June as part of the Fuerteventura Film Commission’s ongoing programme to train professionals and individuals interested in entering the audiovisual industry.

The course was delivered for the first time on the island by Yanira Cáceres, who holds a degree in Environmental Sciences and a Master’s degree in Protected Natural Areas. Cáceres has worked as an environmental consultant and technical evaluator on major audiovisual productions, including Foundation and Exodus.

The programme was met with great enthusiasm and attracted a high level of participation. Attendees received specialised, practical training focused on developing audiovisual projects through a sustainability-oriented approach. Particular attention was given to the role of the Sustainable Production Assistant and the implementation of sustainability measures tailored to the specific needs of each production.

During the initial phase of the course, Yanira Cáceres provided an overview of the importance of sustainability within the audiovisual industry. Participants were also joined by Asier Muñiz, Production Manager of American Star, who contributed to the opening sessions.

The programme included a field visit to Las Peñitas, located within the Betancuria Rural Park, one of the island’s most sought-after filming locations. During the visit, Toni Gallardo, Manager of the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve, explained the environmental measures implemented during the filming of productions such as Exodus and Eternals.

The Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, Nereida Calero, presented participants with their certificates and congratulated them on successfully completing the course.

According to Calero, “the Fuerteventura Film Commission has been committed for several years to providing training opportunities for professionals and newcomers to the audiovisual sector, with the aim of ensuring that productions arriving on the island can be supported efficiently by qualified professionals based in Fuerteventura.”

She added that “this particular course is especially important because it focuses on applying sustainable production models that help preserve our landscapes as a natural film set, which is precisely one of the island’s greatest attractions for the audiovisual industry.”

The Fuerteventura Film Commission has also recently delivered its Make-up and Hairdressing for Photographic Shoots course. Upcoming training opportunities include Screenwriting, Assistant Director, and Production Assistant workshops.

Further information on all courses and registration details is available on the Fuerteventura Film Commission website.
