“American Star” to Premiere in Fuerteventura on 20 June

The Fuerteventura Film Commission brings the national premiere of the film to the island following its successful release in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Tickets are available free of charge through ecoentradas.com.

Fuerteventura will host the Spanish premiere of American Star on Thursday, 20 June, at 8:00 p.m. at Yelmo Cineplex (Caleta de Fuste). The film will be screened in its original language with Spanish subtitles. Following the screening of the feature film, which was shot entirely in Fuerteventura, there will be a discussion session with the film’s director, Gonzalo López-Gallego.

A second screening will also take place on 27 June at the same time. Tickets for both sessions are free and can be obtained from Monday, 17 June, via the ecoentradas.com platform.

Following its successful reception in cinemas across the United States and the United Kingdom, the Fuerteventura Film Commission is bringing the film to the island for its Spanish premiere. The event forms part of the Film Commission’s programme celebrating its 10th anniversary.

According to Nereida Calero, Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, the feature film was shot in locations including Corralejo, Playa de Garcey and Lajares, further positioning Fuerteventura on the international stage as a premier filming destination.

Starring acclaimed actor Ian McShane (Deadwood, John Wick), the film tells the story of a professional hitman on his final assignment in the picturesque setting of Fuerteventura. The plot follows a seasoned assassin who arrives on the island to eliminate a man he has never met. However, when his target is delayed, he abandons protocol and becomes captivated by the island, its people and a mysterious shipwreck.

In the words of director Gonzalo López-Gallego, “in American Star, the island takes on a leading role in a story set and developed within unique and extraordinary landscapes.”
