Sorogoyen’s The Beloved Generates Over €4 Million in Local Investment in Fuerteventura

The production involves nearly 300 local extras and is filming in locations across the municipalities of Pájara and La Oliva.

Fuerteventura is currently hosting the filming of The Beloved, the latest feature film by acclaimed Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen. The island serves as one of the main settings for the production, which stars Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo, with filming taking place in locations including Punta de Jandía and other areas of Pájara and La Oliva.

Production on the island will continue for seven weeks, with scenes being shot both on location and inside hotels, restaurants and other local establishments.

The film is expected to generate more than €4 million in local investment, while also providing opportunities for almost 300 local extras, highlighting the positive impact of the production on both the island’s economy and its audiovisual sector.

This was emphasised by Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, during a recent visit to the set alongside Nereida Calero, Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, and Alejandro Jorge, Mayor of Pájara. They were joined by Raquel Acosta, Councillor for Culture, and Juan José Viera, Councillor for Commerce.

Nereida Calero highlighted “the significant coordination effort involved in hosting productions of this scale in Fuerteventura, an area in which we must continue improving, as well as the importance of working closely with production companies to support and facilitate their projects.”

“Through the Fuerteventura Film Commission, we remain committed to this industry so that the island continues to be a preferred destination for film productions, generating direct economic benefits and supporting local employment,” she added.

The Beloved tells the story of an acclaimed film director and his daughter, an unsuccessful actress, who find themselves working together on a film after years of estrangement and a difficult past that neither of them has been willing to confront.

Alongside Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo, the cast includes Raúl Arévalo, Marina Foïs, Mourad Ouani, Raúl Prieto, Melina Matthews, Laura Birn, Nuria Prims, Pablo Gómez-Pando and Malena Villa.

The Beloved is a Movistar Plus+ Original production, co-produced by Caballo Films and El Ser Querido AIE, with French co-production support from Le Pacte and in association with Canal+ France. The project is financed by the ICAA and Creative Europe MEDIA, with additional support from the ICEC and the Community of Madrid.

The film will be released theatrically in Spain by A Contracorriente Films before becoming exclusively available on Movistar Plus+. International sales will be handled by Goodfellas.
