Fuerteventura Film Commission Publishes Sustainability Guide for Audiovisual Productions

‘Localiza Fuerteventura’ is a practical tool designed for audiovisual professionals who choose Fuerteventura as the setting for their productions, helping to ensure that filming activities remain in harmony with the island’s natural environment.

On 17 December, the Fuerteventura Film Commission presented a new guide for sustainable audiovisual production on the island. Entitled “Localiza Fuerteventura”, the publication has been created as a practical resource for audiovisual professionals working in Fuerteventura, promoting environmentally responsible filming practices while safeguarding the island’s natural and cultural heritage.

According to Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, “this guide is a practical tool for audiovisual professionals who choose Fuerteventura as the setting for their productions, ensuring that their activities are carried out in harmony with the conservation of the territory.”

Nereida Calero, Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, explained that “Fuerteventura’s landscapes attract audiovisual productions every year thanks to the island’s unique appeal as a natural film location. The Cabildo and the Fuerteventura Film Commission strongly support the benefits that the audiovisual industry brings to the island, always ensuring that this development remains compatible with the protection of our environment. For this reason, and coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the Film Commission, we have produced this sustainability guide for audiovisual filming.”

The document identifies recommended filming locations within the island’s protected natural areas and provides guidance, recommendations and necessary restrictions to ensure that audiovisual activities remain compatible with the preservation of environmental values.

“It functions as a practical reference guide that we hope will be of great benefit both to the audiovisual sector and to the different public administrations involved,” added Calero.

The “Localiza Fuerteventura” guide will be available for download from 18 December.

The project was developed through close collaboration between the Department of Environment of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, audiovisual industry professionals, local authorities and biodiversity conservation specialists, under the coordination of Yanira Cáceres. Through consultation with industry professionals, the project team identified the sector’s needs and the requirements of productions working on the island.

Cáceres thanked the Cabildo, the technical team of the Fuerteventura Film Commission and all those who contributed to the project, including production companies, location managers and other industry professionals. She also highlighted that the guide is intended to be a living document, open to future updates and improvements.

Also attending the presentation were Carlos Rodríguez, Councillor for the Environment; Juan Jiménez, Councillor for Culture of Puerto del Rosario Town Council; Rosa Rodríguez, Councillor for Tourism; technical representatives from other municipalities; and members of the audiovisual sector in Fuerteventura.
