The Fuerteventura Film Commission, led by Nereida Calero, is bringing a selection of award-winning short films from the 2025 Lanzarote International Film Festival to the island, thanks to a collaboration with the festival organisers.
The films will be screened on 4 July at 6:00 p.m. at the Fuerteventura Island Youth Centre in Puerto del Rosario. Admission is free of charge until full capacity is reached.
This year, the Lanzarote International Film Festival (FICL) celebrated its 25th anniversary. Organised by Fisme Producciones and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the festival has been an official qualifying event for the Goya Awards since 2018. Over the past quarter century, the festival has established itself as a key event in Spain’s audiovisual landscape, promoting film culture and supporting emerging and established filmmakers alike.
In this year’s edition, the award for Best International Short Film went to Le Dérapage, directed by Aurélien Laplace (France), a production recognised for its sharp political satire and intelligent humour.
The award for Best National Short Film was presented to Insalvable, directed by Javier Marco and co-written with Belén Sánchez-Arévalo, a film praised for its narrative tension and refined visual style.
The Best Canary Islands Short Film award went to Los Muchachos, directed by Alejandro Artiles, a story set at the observatory on the island of La Palma.
The award for Best Animated Short Film was presented to Carmela, directed by Vicente Mallols (Spain).
In the Best Documentary Short Film category, the winner was Emilia, directed by Rafa Arroyo, a documentary recognised for its sensitivity and commitment to human rights and feminist causes.
Nereida Calero, Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, encourages audiences to take advantage of this opportunity to discover some of the best works showcased at the Lanzarote International Film Festival.
She also expressed her gratitude to the Island Youth Department for its collaboration and for making the facilities of the Fuerteventura Island Youth Centre available for the screenings.
