Nearly one hundred participants have now completed training through the Fuerteventura Film Commission’s workshop programme, delivered by highly experienced professionals from across the audiovisual industry.

A total of twenty-five participants completed training as Assistant Directors through the educational programme organised by the Fuerteventura Film Commission. The course was offered on the island for the first time and was aimed at aspiring film directors, experienced industry professionals and short film directors interested in expanding their knowledge of the assistant directing role.

The workshop was delivered by Óscar Santamaría, one of the most respected assistant directors in the Canary Islands, with an extensive national and international career as well as a strong background in training and education. Santamaría has worked as an assistant director on productions filmed in Fuerteventura, including La Viajante and La Lucha, the latter having been shot on the island earlier this year.

The Councillor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, Nereida Calero, highlighted the excellent response to a course that had never previously been offered in Fuerteventura and which was delivered in collaboration with the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster.

Calero also thanked the nearly one hundred participants who have taken part in the training programme so far. Previous workshops have included Assistant Director Training, Natural and Creative Make-up and Hairdressing for Photographic Shoots, Sustainable Production Assistant, and Screenwriting.

She also encouraged anyone interested in joining the audiovisual industry to register for the upcoming Production Assistant Workshop, which will take place from 23 to 27 September and will be delivered by Nick Egea, a professional with more than twenty years of experience working as a production manager on advertising campaigns and film productions.
